The “Playable Pets Mod Sims 4” is a fan-made mod that allows you to directly control your pets. As for some reason the game creators didn’t think to add to the sims 4 pets pack.
While it wasn’t a “terrible” expansion, there were a lot of missteps that they took – their biggest one being the fact that you couldn’t control your pets or play as them, something that had been a staple in the previous pet expansions for other games.
To make matters worse, it was revealed by several modders that this wasn’t even so much an accidental misstep, but rather something they made a conscious decision not to include.
EA being EA, they decided to create the option for players to control their pets but actively disabled it in this expansion.
The good news is that, because this code was already in place, it was a simple matter for modders to just “turn it on” to bring back controllable pets again.

How to Install The Playable Pets Mod
First thing’s first, you’re going to need to download the mod. To do this, head over to the Sims 4 studio and click on the “download” button located at the bottom of the article. From there, you’ll be taken to the page where you can download it.
Since it’s not too huge, you shouldn’t have to wait too long. Once it’s finished, you should find it in your ‘Downloads’ section on your computer as a zip file.
After you’ve downloaded the mod, unzipped the file, and inserted the .package and .ts4script files into your mods folder, you’re ready to go.
When installing mods you want to make sure, you’re no more than one level deep in your mods folder.
What you don’t want to do is make a “playable pet mods” folder and then a second folder inside of there. This will mess up the mod and keep it from working properly.
Now that you’ve properly downloaded and installed the mod, your next step is to make sure you have mods enabled for your game.
To do this, start The Sims 4 and go to the game’s menu options. From there, you’ll head over to the “other” option in the options menu settings.
This is where you’ll see where you can enable mods as well as custom content. You want to make sure that that box is checked.
If you’ve included other mods already, this shouldn’t be an issue. If, on the other hand, this is your first time, you’ll want to immediately restart the game after you’ve checked it off so that they recognize your new settings.
Once you’ve completed that, you should be good to go!
How Does The Playable Pets Mod Work?
This playable pets mod is great as it shows all of your pet’s different needs that must be attended to. One of the big issues with the vanilla version of the game is that you’re always guessing what your cat or dog was needing.
This mod lets you keep track of their wants and needs, the same as you would with any other sim in the game, making keeping them happy much, much easier.
Playable Pets is a fantastic mod, and while it doesn’t introduce completely new and unusual features, it corrects a serious oversight. It provides players with what they were expecting when getting the pack in the first place.
Another bonus is that if you use the UI Cheats Extension mod for your sims needs it works perfectly with this mod as well.
